I visited Normandy Beach for the first time in 1999 while traveling through Europe to complete my thesis on the integration of Eastern European countries into the EU, as well as a general trip to visit all of the lovely European countries that I had always wished to visit.
This photo actually portrays the exact feeling when you walk around the American memorial site, with lines and lines of crosses for those who fought and died on that Beach. The view from one of the bunkers looking over the ocean is breath-taking and I happened to be there on a day when the sun was shinning just slightly through the clouds, not enough to call it a sunny day, but just enough to get the feeling that there was a heaven above.
